Good Music Can Be Had Anywhere
It seems lately that my life has been an odd series of dicotomies. This past weekend I attended 2 live performances. One was the opera La Traviata in Watseka, Il courtesy of the Sugar Creek Festival and the second was The Color Purple in downtown Chicago.
Both were superb examples of a live performance. So many people in my rural area don’t know or take advantage of the musical opportunities around us. When was the last time you went to see a live musical production? Not a DVD, not a show on TV or even a movie - a LIVE show. There are so many ways to expose yourself to this type of music in the middle of Illinois. What follows is just a short list of the possibilities in our area:
- Kankakee Valley Theater
- Country Theatre Workshop
- Earl Park Blue Grass Festival
- Sugar Creek Festival
- Your Local Church
- Your Local School
The perks to seeing a local show are many. You’ll get a good seat. You’ll spend a meager amount of money per ticket. Sometimes entrance is even free. And you’ll be supporting the arts in your community.
